Lift HC stay on rule for conversion via marriage: Guj in SC

Gujarat government on Saturday requested the SC to lift the high court stay on Section 5 of the Freedom of Religion Act, 2003 which mandated prior permission of the district magistrate for conversion through marriage. Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar, the suspected mastermind of rapper Sidhu Moose Wala’s May 29 murder, was detained in California over a week ago and has been in US police’s custody since, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann said on Friday. Goldy, whose roots are in Punjab’s Muktsar, moved to Canada on a student visa in 2017 and built a life in crime from there. He apparently shifted base to the US after Moose Wala’s murder.

Remittances to India set to hit record $100bn this year

Remittance flows to India are estimated to grow 12% to reach $100 billion for the first time this year— way ahead of Mexico, China and Philippines— according to World Bank’s Migration and Development brief. Between 2016-17 and 2020-21, the share of remittances from US, UK and Singapore increased from 26% to over 36%, while the share from five Gulf countries dropped from 54% to 28%,” the World Bank said.
