Worrying rainwater volume dip in 101 sub-basins: IMD

2 Kota students end life, toll 22 this year

Two NEET students ended their lives within hours of each other in coaching crucible Kota on Sunday, one flinging himself to the death from the sixth floor of his institute and the other allegedly hanging himself in his rented house over low scores in tests. The deaths of Maharashtra’s Avishkar Shambaji Kasle (17) and Bihar’s Adarsh Raj (18) took the student suicide tally in Kota to six this month and 22 since January this year, against 15 in all of 2022.

Govt imposes 20% export duty on parboiled rice; MEP on basmati coming

The government is initiating fresh measures to ensure that rice prices remain under control and overall inflation comes down. On Friday, the Centre imposed 20% export duty on parboiled rice (rice partially boiled with husk), barely a week after imposing 40% duty on exports of onion. Besides, it is expected to notify a minimum export price (MEP) for basmati rice, pegged at $1,200 (Rs 99,000) a tonne.

Nuh tense again: Internet suspended; outfits defiant on yatra

Internet and bulk SMS services were suspended once again in Nuh after right-wing outfits pledged to bring out a Brij Mandal Jalabhishek Yatra on August 28 since the previous one was disrupted because of the communal clash on July 31. Officials said the internet shutdown, which came into force on Friday evening, would continue till August 29. Haryana had suspended internet and SMS services in Nuh, besides imposing a curfew, after the July 31 clash, and restored it only on August 11.

Chandrayaan-3: 'It took 8-10 secs to deploy ramp for rover rollout'

Pragyan had crawled eight metres on the Moon as of Friday at the rate of 1cm per second after the Chandrayaan-3 rover began leaving its tracks in lunar surface dust on Thursday. All systems were go on Friday. The first images of the rover rolling out of the lander and over the ramp, released Friday, added to India’s Moonshot euphoria. It took only 8-10 seconds for the final deployment of the ramp, following which the process of rolling out the rover was initiated.

Manipur clashes: Pre-trial work of cases moved to Guwahati

On CBI's request, SC on Friday entrusted pre-trial procedural work in the 27 cases being investigated by central agency, arising from the ethnic clashes in Manipur and including the parading of two women naked by a mob on May 4, to magisterial and sessions courts in Guwahati in Assam. Of these 27 cases, 20 pertain to molestation, rape and murder of women, three concern looting of weapons, two are cases of murder of male members, and a case each relating to rioting and conspiracy.

Jio Fin shares fall 5%, hit lower circuit for 3rd day

Dalit woman stripped over brother's elopement
