Amidst rising Covid-19 cases in the state, health officials on Saturday said seven patients were found infected with newer Omicron sublineages of BA.4 (four patients) and BA.5 (three patients). 36 dead in every 100 accidents, severity at 20-yr high in 2020
The severity of road crashes was at 20 years’ high during 2020 when at least 36 people died in every 100 such accidents, according to a report of the road transport ministry released on Wednesday. The data on road deaths also show that two-wheeler occupants had a huge share of 43.5% of the total road deaths and there was a 79% increase in the number of fatalities due to jumping of traffic lights and 20% rise in deaths due to driving on the wrong side.

The government on Saturday unveiled a series of duty cuts to cool down prices of iron and steel, coal and plastics, while promising to more than double the subsidy allocation for fertilisers to cushion the impact of the Ukraine war on farmers. SC permits OBC reservation in MP local body elections
On May 10, the court had directed that the poll process for 23,263 local bodies in MP be conducted forthwith and rejected the state government’s plea for more time to fulfill the ‘triple test’ criteria to introduce OBC reservation in local self-governed bodies and complete the delimitation process.

Monsoon over Andaman, may hit Kerala early: IMD
Advance of the southwest monsoon over the Indian mainland is marked by its onset over Kerala, beginning the four-month rainy season. “As per the progress and monitoring, it shows that our prediction (of onset over Kerala on May 27) will be correct for monsoon,” said IMD scientist R K Jenamani.
