Gujarat has become the first state in the country to roll out a rapid test that can confirm within an hour if meat seized on suspicion of being beef is from a cow. the Lamp DNA method - introduced in limited capacity in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar - is a better alternative to conventional methods like serological analysis and DNA analysis that take more than a day.

NGT fines K'taka Rs 2,900cr for lapses in waste management
Coming down heavily on the Karnataka government for failing to check environmental pollution by ensuring effective solid waste and sewage management systems, the National Green Tribunal ordered it to pay Rs 2,900 crore as compensation. The amount may be utilised to restore the environment in the next six months. The chief secretary is responsible to ensure compliance.

Balaji ex-COO goes missing in Kenya, MEA keeping 'close eye'
Bandra resident Zulfiqar Ahmad Khan, former vice-president of Star TV and former COO of Balaji Telefilms, and one Zaid Sami Kidwai, along with their local driver Nicodemus Mwania have been missing in Kenya for 85 days. A police complaint was filed locally. "We are keeping a close eye. I am afraid they are still missing," MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said.

ED attaches Rs 1,300cr assets tied to real estate firm Ireo, its MD
The ED has attached assets worth over Rs 1,300 crore belonging to real estate developer Ireo Pvt Ltd, its managing director Lalit Goyal, and associated entities. Goyal is a close relative of BJP leader Sudhanshu Mittal, who has denied having any connection with Ireo, except that it is owned and managed by his relatives.

Amul milk prices up, Guj spared; Mother Dairy too hikes rates
Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation, which markets milk under the Amul brand, has hiked the prices of Amul Gold (full cream) and buffalo milk by Rs 2 per litre each across all markets except for Gujarat. Mother Dairy also announced an increase in prices of full-cream milk and cow milk by Rs 2 per litre in Delhi-NCR and some other markets in North India with effect from October 16.
