What state budgets tell about India's GDP growth

Both the Centre as well as states are grappling with serious resource crunch with collapse in tax receipts and a significant rise in expenditures. Economists at the State Bank of India (SBI) analysed finances of 13 states and estimated an average fiscal deficit of 4.5 per cent for financial year 2021. While, for FY22, states have budgeted an average fiscal deficit of 3.3 per cent.
