Retail inflation based on consumer price index (CPI) jumped to 8-year high of 7.79 per cent in April, data released by government showed on Thursday. Inflation numbers have now been above the upper limit of RBI's 2 per cent - 6 per cent tolerance band for 4 straight months. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) mainly factors in retail inflation while arriving at its bi-monthly policy.
